To the big mountain

This past weekend we both made an adventure trip out to Mount St. Helens. I was a great weekend. We camped Friday and Saturday night at a nearby park and drove into Mount St. Helens on Saturday. As you can see from the photos is was a little hazy out but it was still a great view.

Behind Josh and I you'll notice an example of a tree that was blown down from the big explosion back on May 12, 1980. That's what the landscape looks like for some 15 miles out from the mountain.

Next visit we're gonna check out the other side of the mountain and hopefully it'll be clearer. Plus there is a place you can go to walk down into some old lava caves.

Yes, I'm a geology major so this stuff excites me. Oh, and last night I saw a special on Crater Lake so now that too is on my big list of must see!

Joshua, Congrats on getting through ranger school the first time. It sounds like it is pretty tough. I worry about you doing this kind of stuff, but that's my job. We are really proud of you.
